What is water baptism?
It means to dip, immerse
Who may be baptised?
Any person who will repent, turn to Christ, and believe the Gospel may be baptised. (Acts 8:12) “but when they believed philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of god, and the name of jesus christ, they were baptised, both men and women.” Babies are innocent and need no covering until the age of accountability (Romans 7:vs 9-11) For i was alive without the law once…………..
Is water baptism optional?
Water baptism is not just an outward sign. Jesus commanded it. Jesus himself was baptised. Baptism does not save us but identifies us with Christ.

Those who believe in Christ and the gospel are to be baptised with water. This represents their covenant pledge to renounce immorality, the world and their own sinful nature and to unreservedly commit themselves to Christ and his kingdom for his purpose.
What happens to the believer in water baptism?
• In water baptism there is a definite inward work which takes place within the heart of the believer. Water baptism is a point of separation.
• Romans: 6 vs 6 “know this, that our old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
• 1 Cor. 2: 11-12. The children of Israel being brought out of Egypt is a picture of salvation crossing the red sea on dry land and the enemy being drowned there is a picture of the enemies of our soul being drowned. We see the children of Israel being delivered through the red sea as a separation fro the Egyptians (Ex. 14: 12- 15: 3)
• 2 Cor. 5: 17 – Paul speaks about dying to sin, that is burying the old and resurrecting the new.
• Romans: 6: vs 4, 8 – dead men don’t sin, so sin is to have no more dominion over us. We have spiritual surgery which is a cutting away of the body of sins of the flesh. Water baptism is taking a stand.
What is the meaning of water baptism?
We are baptised into the lords death, burial and resurrection. (Romans 6:3-11)
1. Going under is burying the old man.
2. Being raised is in the likeness of his resurrection is a resurrection to new life.
3. John baptised Jesus was a fulfillment to scripture that shows the direction of God in our lives.
Why did the disciples baptise in the name of jesus when jesus commanded them to baptise in the name of the father, son and the holy spirit ?
• The name of the Father is Lord – Ex. 3:15, Isaiah 42.8
• The name of the Son is Jesus – Matthew 1;21
• The name of the Holy Spirit is taken from the greek work Christos translated as Christ the anointed one - Acts 10:38
